This is the easiest way to walk out of Studio Mita with something in your hands the same afternoon. Pick a pre-fired ceramic piece — a mug, a small bowl, a trinket dish — and turn it into something entirely your own with acrylic paint, no pottery experience or patience-for-firing required. It's relaxed, a little messy, and genuinely fun with a friend, a partner, or your kids.

What you'll do

You'll choose your blank piece from a small selection (mugs are the most popular; bowls and dishes are also usually available), then settle in at a worktable with a cup of chai while Madhumita walks you through paint options, brush techniques, and a few approaches — freehand doodles, simple patterns, or a guided motif if you'd rather not stare at a blank canvas. There's no "correct" way to do this: some guests paint intricate mandalas, others go for a single bold stripe and call it done. Both are equally welcome.

Because it's acrylic on an already-fired piece, there's no waiting for a kiln — your paint dries enough to handle carefully within the session, and you leave with your piece the same day (avoid heavy scrubbing or dishwashing for the first 48 hours to let the paint fully cure).

The session, step by step

  1. 01Welcome, chai, choose your ceramic piece
  2. 02Quick demo: paint types, brush handling, simple techniques
  3. 03Free painting time with Madhumita circulating for guidance
  4. 04Let your piece dry/set
  5. 05Take it home the same day

What's included

Your ceramic piece, acrylic paints, brushes, apron, and chai/light refreshments.

Wear & bring

Nothing required — aprons provided — but wear something you won't mind getting a stray paint splatter on, just in case.

Who this is for

First-timers, couples and friend groups looking for a relaxed activity, families with kids, and anyone who wants a guaranteed same-day takeaway (great for travelers with limited time in Dharamshala).

Meet Madhumita

Madhumita keeps this session intentionally loose — it's less about technique and more about the simple pleasure of putting color on something with your hands, ideally with good conversation and better chai alongside it.

Good to know

Is this real pottery-making?+

Not in the hand-building or wheel sense — you're decorating an already-made ceramic piece with paint. It's the most accessible, fastest workshop the studio offers.

Can I use my piece for food or drink after?+

Acrylic-painted pieces are best treated as decorative rather than food-safe for daily use — avoid dishwashing and prolonged liquid contact. Ask Madhumita for care instructions specific to your piece.

Good for kids?+

Yes — ages 6 and up can join, and it's one of the most kid-friendly sessions on offer.

Cancellation

Cancel at least 24 hours before your slot for a full refund.
