ResidencyQuoted on WhatsAppIf you are making toward a show rather than practising, a residency is arranged around the work.5 hours a day, uninterrupted, plus 2 scheduled hours across the stay: one at the start to decide what it is for, then one to look at what came of it. Ask her anything in between; she is there.
₹40,000 for one person, including Indian taxes. You can hold your dates with 30% — ₹12,000 — and settle the balance 30 days before you arrive, or pay once and have it done.
₹71,000 for the two of you sharing one room, which is ₹35,500 each — ₹9,000 less than booking separately.
One room between the two of you, which is the only thing that is shared. You each get your own wheel, your own clay, your own firing allowance and your own three meals a day, and on a taught stay Madhumita teaches you both. That is why two of you sharing costs less than two separate bookings, but more than one.
Two-person stays are confirmed on the dates rather than booked online, because the studio only has so many wheels in it. Message us and we will tell you straight away.
Room and meals included on every row below, in both rooms. If you already have somewhere to sleep, switch the Stay control above for monthly classes and studio passes.
Every price above is per person, for one guest in a private room, and includes the room, three meals a day, the studio and Indian taxes. Two of you sharing a room costs less per head than two separate bookings; pick a stay above to see that figure. Firing beyond the included allowance, and glazing, are charged at the studio’s standard rates.
Booking on your own, as most guests do? The room is yours alone: we never put two guests who do not know each other in the same room. Travelling as a pair and happy to share? Every stay carries a published price for two of you sharing, so there is nothing to ask for.
Village stay · traditional build
A clean, private room in a traditional mud-and-slate village house: cool through summer, warm in winter, and honest in the way old buildings are. Full of the character that brings people to this valley.
Airbnb style · more space
A larger, quieter apartment with its own sitting room and kitchenette, so your morning coffee and your late tea run on your schedule rather than anyone else's.
A kiln is sold by the room your work takes up, not by what it weighs. Small pieces share a firing with everyone else's and are billed by weight. A tall vase or a wide platter can occupy a cabin, or the whole kiln, on its own, and then nothing else can go in beside it, so it is charged for the space instead. Madhumita tells you which applies before a piece goes in, never after it comes out.
The first 10 kg of your finished work is included in the course fee.
One piece, or a set, that needs a shelf to itself.
A tall or wide piece taking roughly half the kiln.
A single piece, or a body of work, filling the kiln.
Free to move your dates once, up to 30 days before you arrive. Cancel more than 60 days out and you get everything back bar the card fee. Inside 30 days we cannot re-let the room or the studio, so the deposit is kept, and inside 15 days, the full fee.
Everything you have paid is returned, less the payment-processing fee our bank does not refund us (about 3% of the amount paid). Nothing has been committed on your behalf at this point.
Your room is being held and your studio dates are off the calendar. If you paid in full, everything above the deposit is refunded to you.
By now your accommodation has been booked and paid for on your behalf, and two or three weeks of studio time cannot realistically be filled at this notice.
The room is paid, the food is ordered and the teaching days are gone. This is the window travel insurance exists for, which is why we ask you to carry it.
For most of what is here, no. The weekend stay, the taught retreat and both immersions assume you have never touched clay. The practice weeks and the residency are the exceptions: they are self-directed, so you should already be able to centre and work unaided.
Space and quiet, and nothing else. Both are private and, on a solo booking, yours alone. The mud house is a room in a traditional village house; the premium room is a larger apartment with its own sitting room, kitchenette and balcony. It adds about ₹1,429 a night, and the studio, the teaching and the food are identical either way.
Room, three meals a day, all clay, all glazes, all tools, and the first few kilograms of firing are in the price, which also includes Indian taxes. Flights, visas, insurance, meals out and firing beyond your allowance are not. There is no service charge and no per-day extra.
Because a weekend costs the studio nearly as much to set up as a fortnight does: the same arrival, the same clay prepared, the same kiln packed, spread across two nights instead of fifteen. A weekend works out at about ₹8,000 a night in the mud house, against about ₹6,000 for the two-week immersion. The longer you stay, the better the rate, on every rung.
Yes. Every figure on this page is for one person, inclusive of Indian taxes, and covers a private room, three meals a day and the studio. Two of you sharing one room is published too: it adds ₹30,000 on the taught retreat, so a pair pays ₹83,000 in the mud house rather than twice ₹53,000.
Yes, and it costs less per head than booking separately, because the room is the one thing you share. A week on the taught retreat is ₹83,000 for the two of you in the mud house, which is ₹41,500 each. You each get your own wheel, your own clay, your own firing allowance and your own meals. Two-person dates are confirmed in the conversation rather than booked online, because the studio has a limited number of wheels.
That is the taught retreat: seven nights, five taught studio days, and the days in between are yours. It is ₹53,000 in the mud house. The immersion is the opposite trade — teaching every studio day, for a fortnight or three weeks.
Message on WhatsApp with the stay you want and roughly when. We confirm the dates and the room, then you hold them with a deposit or pay in full. The immersion has a checkout on its own page; everything else is arranged in the conversation.
