Two of you
A Pottery Session for Two, near Dharamshala
Two people, one table, two hours of clay. It is a better date than it sounds — largely because it is genuinely difficult, and watching someone you like fail at centring a lump of clay is disarming in a way dinner is not.
Why clay works for two
Because neither of you will be good at it. A shared beginner's footing removes the performance from an afternoon in a way that most 'experiences' do not manage — nobody is demonstrating anything, and the material is indifferent to how the day is going. Two hours in, most couples have stopped talking about anything except what is in front of them.
What you make
Whatever the two of you decide, which is the point of this one — we ask beforehand what you imagine making and plan the session around it. Usually that is a pair: two mugs that match, two that deliberately do not, a dish for a table you share, something with a date pressed into the base. You end up with two objects visibly by different hands and visibly from the same afternoon.
The session
Two hours — ninety minutes of making, half an hour of clean-up — at ₹5,000 for the pair, which is ₹2,500 each. It is bookable as Pottery for Two, and it starts with a conversation rather than a fixed format: tell us what you would like to end up with and Madhumita builds the session around it.
The three-to-six week postscript
Kiln-fired pieces take three to six weeks, which means the object arrives long after the day. Couples tend to like this more than they expect — it turns into a second small event weeks later. If you are travelling and want to leave holding something, the hour-long Sip & Paint session is the same afternoon in miniature.
As a gift
Gift vouchers are coming soon — we are working out the terms properly rather than issuing something with an unclear expiry and awkward conversations later. If you want to give a session in the meantime, message the studio on WhatsApp and we will arrange it directly.
Frequently asked questions
Tap a question to open it.
Is pottery a good date?
It works well for the same reason it is not effortless — you are both beginners at something physical, which removes the performance from an afternoon. Most couples find they stop talking about everything else about half an hour in.
How much is a couples pottery session?
₹2,500 per person for a two-hour clay workshop, or ₹1,500 each for the hour-long Sip & Paint. Firing is charged separately by piece size, and shipping within India is ₹200 apiece.
Can we have the studio to ourselves?
Sometimes. Sessions normally run with up to six people, so you will usually share the table. Message us with your dates and we will tell you whether a private session is possible.
Can I book a pottery session as a gift?
Yes, though not yet as a self-serve voucher — gift vouchers are coming soon and we would rather define the terms properly first. For now, message the studio on WhatsApp and we will arrange it.
Do we take our pieces home that day?
Only from Sip & Paint, where you paint an already-fired piece. Clay work is fired twice and takes three to six weeks; we ship within India for ₹200 a piece.
